Personal Information
I grew up in the south suburb of Paris, France, and moved to Los Angeles, CA, in September 1983, after finishing high school. I worked for several years as a real estate agent. I was successful in selling real estate because I was able to help my clients get financing - even then, the source of my success, albeit without any formal training, had to do with finance. In 1989, I took Accounting 101, as part of my college requirements and discovered, by chance, my passion: accounting. Amazingly enough, studying accounting was both easy and fun for me! Once I knew what I wanted to study, I finished my education as soon as possible and received a Bachelor of Science from California State University, Los Angeles.
In November 1992, I took and passed the CPA exam while working for a small CPA firm. After obtaining all the requirements, I received my CPA license in July 1994. My time was split between doing audits and reviews for privately owned businesses and preparing individual and corporate tax returns. During these three years, I acquired a very solid body of knowledge in accounting, finance, and taxes.
In January 1994, I followed my soon-to-be husband to Germany. After working really hard to learn German, I began working for the German subsidiary of an American company. Accounting had to be done both per the German and the American rules since the parent company was traded on the NASDQ stock exchange.
In October 1998, we returned to California where I became Controller of a law firm. Needless to say, working for a law firm was very different than what I had to do in Germany. The department had to be reorganized and the accounting cleaned up however after a lot of hard work, things began to run smoothly.
In April 2002, I joined a very small investment banking firm as the CFO. I worked directly with the owner of the company and once again acquired new skills and experiences.
In August 2005, I moved to Tucson, AZ, to follow my husband who got a job at the University of Arizona as an Astronomer. In 2006, I worked for a few months for a local real estate firm, in the group charged with cleaning up the accounting of assets for sale.
This experience made me realize that small businesses need as much, if not more, high-level and sophisticated accounting and financial advice than big firms but they often don't get it. I have acquired, over the past 16 years, experience in many different kinds of environments, firm sizes, and even countries so that I can provide, to the small business owner, a balanced and realistic approach to the accounting, bookkeeping, and finance. In addition, I have worked with QuickBooks for many years now and can set it up quickly and efficiently so that the owner can take full advantage of its capabilities without experiencing the problems that stem from an incorrect set up and use.
I am married and we have a third-grader enrolled in a TUSD school. My current hobby that has lasted over 10 years now is quilting, usually making small wall-hangings for family and friends.
